One of the highlights of my experience as a restauranteur is traveling and drinking some of the best wines in the world with the winemakers who make them. No amount of reading wine notes or studying a wine region replicates the experience of sitting for a couple of hours with the winemaker and a few other wine lovers. It’s always a small group, so we dine together at one table, sharing the food, tasting each wine (including samples of their most special wines), and talking together with the winemaker about their process and inspiration for each bottle.
This is a wine dinner unlike any we’ve done so far. We’re limiting this special engagement event to just 14 guests, plus Bodegas y Vinedos Alzania owner and winemaker José Manuel Echeverría and knowledgeable Bon Vivant Imports owner and wine broker Brad Jensen, and will feature our favorite wines from Bodega Alzania. This means we’ll all sit around one big table and together we’ll enjoy a six-course tasting menu and hand-selected wine pairings, including the Seleccion Privada, Merlot/Tempranillo, which is the flagship wine of this exceptional house and made in very small quantities, so we can experience the subtle nuances of this wine (and try the Reserva pairings to taste three years of this special production wine).
José Manuel and his wife, Maria Seanz Olazabal, both come from wine-making families and spent many years working in other vineyards before starting their own vineyard and winery in the Navarra region of Spain. Since 1999, José Manuel has developed a reputation among his peers as one of the top winemakers in Spain. Bodegas y Vinedos Alzania produces less than 4,000 cases per year of small lot hand-crafted wines. Each vintage, his release of new wines shows a consistent and exceptional dedication to the varying estate fruit of his vineyards, and results in wines of elegance and concentration that can stand up to the top wines of the world.
As Brad (www.bonvivantimports.com) explains, Bodegas y Vinedos Alzania is located in the Basque region of Navarra, in Northern Spain, on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees Mountains. The Navarra region has a long history of vine growing (traces of Vitis Silvestris were recently discovered - dating back 5 million years!) and has evolved from a bulk wine export region in the first half of the 20th century, to rosé wines in the 1980’s, to now having a quality fine wine focus that travels worldwide.
We’d love to have you join us for this exclusive event. Reservations are available online.
