For this distinguished dinner, we are featuring the wines of CVNE, Clos Mogador and Lustau, all from the well-known and esteemed wine distributor, Europvin, based out of Bordeaux, France. We will start with two younger wines from CVNE a blanco (white wine) and their Crianza. CVNE’s impressive history begins in 1895 and is the first winery to produce a white wine (CVNE Monopole Blanco) in Rioja which celebrated 100 years of continuous production in 2015.

Just one year after CVNE, Lustau was founded in 1896. No spring chicken either. We will begin and end the evening with Sherry. One in cocktail form and another with dessert. Context for sherry is so compelling for me personally. With Europvin ambassadors and Chef Marco’s food to complement the wine, it solidifies the importance of sherry on the dinner table and in all our cellars (even if the “cellar” is a cardboard box in your basement!)

The wine “main event” has a distinguished, yet younger history. Rene Barbier founded Clos Mogador in 1989 after being mentored by the winemaker from the legendary Bordeaux house, Chateau Petrus. In that short time, Clos Mogador has been considered the benchmark for Priorat, landing scores from 92-98 consistently since the 1990’s. There are so many things right with this wine, impeccable farming, hand harvested, native yeast fermentation, unfiltered and racked according to lunar cycles. The point of all this?? Extreme care is used to make this wine and the results are indisputable. There are only 40 or so bottles in the Utah DABC state store and at $105 per bottle, we are being extremely generous with our pricing for this dinner. You’re welcome. ;)

We are thrilled to partner with two great importers to put together this stunning dinner at Finca, presenting some of the biggest players in Spanish wine. Locally-based wine distributor, PR Grisley Imports, is a great partner who brings estate wines from Spain, France and Portugal to our lists at Finca and to Utah state shelves. One of their top sources for distinguished wines is Europvin, and they know the wines well. They are the face of so many of Spain’s & France’s greatest hits. In Spain, they represent legendary producers Vega Sicilia, Clos Mogador, CVNE and Lustau. In France, they work with many of the top Bordeaux chateaus like Ch. Lafite Rothschild, Ch. Mouton Rothschild, Ch. Margaux and Ch. Haut Brion among other benchmark producers.
