Port is a classic fortified wine that originated from the Douro Valley in Northern Portugal and has a long tradition as an after-dinner drink.  And while that certainly is an enjoyable way to drink Port, like much of the wine world, production has evolved and modernized over the years and there are now so many different variations and styles that it can be enjoyed with a wide variety of food, appetizers, desserts, and even a Port cocktail with tonic as a pre-dinner beverage.

Join us for a winemaker dinner at Finca on Saturday, October 29th at 7pm where you can explore some amazing and unique Port selections with winemaker Luisa Vieira de Sousa Borges of Vieira de Sousa and Brad Jensen of Bon Vivant Imports.  Our chefs have created a wonderful four-course tasting menu to pair with each of the Ports and showcase the variety of colors, textures and flavors (including white, tawny, late-bottled vintage or LBV, and vintage).  Three of the Port wines are special ordered for Finca, so you’ll get to try some really spectacular options that aren’t currently available off-the-shelf.

Vieira de Sousa is a relatively new Port label, but the family-owned and operated estate (check out their website video to see just how gorgeous their estate is).  has been around for centuries.  The Douro area is known as Portugal’s most serious wine region for dry red wines, with unique soils and “field-blend” style indigenous varietals, combined with a temperate climate.  Previously, the estate primarily sold their exceptional fruit to other large winemakers and kept just small amounts of the juice to make Port for their personal family use.  However, one of the younger members of the family – Luisa – pursued an education in winemaking and after graduating with a degree in oenology, she decided to expand the family business to produce their Port commercially.   She is young, ambitious and uses exacting standards (only estate fruit/ crushed manually by foot/ naturally fermented in stainless steel/ using delicate brandy for fortifications) to produce aged wines that are exceptional, classic, and will be recognized as some of the greatest Port available on the market. Join us for a fun evening where you'll hear from the winemaker directly and taste these unique Port wines for yourself.

Salud!
